DOCG

The best mistake in the history of wine.
...and how do you think one of the most prestigious wines in the world was created?
Probably by chance, the production of a completely dry Recioto gave rise to this excellent wine. Some wineries claim they were the first to produce it, however the truth is otherwise: not every year were conditions in the wine cellar suitable for the vinification of a sweet wine (the one most popular and marketed at the time), especially considering the technology of the past. Musts ended up completing alcoholic fermentation, turning all the sugars into alcohol, and thus becoming a dry wine (with insults coming from the unfortunate cellar workers!). It was only later that the enormous potential and superiority of this ‘second-born’ wine, neglected by drinkers at the time, was realised. In 1968, it finally acquired DOC status, and DOCG status in 2010.

Amarone classico

Take Amarone, already an excellence in the world, take only the best vintages, take only the best vats of the best vintages, take only the best casks of wine from the best vats of the best vintages. In this way, quite simply our “Riserva” was created, our most prestigious wine enhanced to an even greater degree of elegance thanks to 4 years of aging in barrels and a minimum of 1 year aging in bottles.

A wine with a very ancient reputation that was extolled by illustrious poets of Roman times such as Virgil, Suetonius and Pliny the Elder. Unfortunately, it has now suffered a huge decline in the market to the benefit of other great wines of the Valpolicella area. This may be due to the difficulty in offering consumers a sweet red wine. Luckily, whoever tastes it, almost always reconsiders it and is rarely not enchanted by it.
It is still the most renowned wine of the Veronese tradition: on Sundays or festive occasions in the Valpolicella area if a bottle of Recioto is not on the table, it hardly seems like a celebration. In the recent past, it was also used as a remedy for recovering from periods of illness, after pregnancies and excellent for regaining energy after strenuous work in the fields or in marble quarries, which have always been a feature of the Valpolicella area.

“Cordial like the home of a brother you get along with,” is how the famous writer Hemingway described Valpolicella. This wine is the most typical of our area and requires few, slow and natural processes. In this way, free-run wine is obtained, which is the most genuine from our grapes, wine that should not be missing from the everyday meal table. It is intended for those who enjoy a good glass of wine that is unpretentious yet certainly satisfying.

Valpolicella classico

Selection of the ripest grapes with the sunniest exposure results in the ‘Superiore’ version. How does it differ from Valpolicella Classico, you may ask? It has a more intense colour, more distinct aromas and a higher alcohol content. The missing element in our production arrived in a frenzy with the 2018 vintage. Newly created, it won the Gran Merito diploma at the ‘Mostra dei Vini del Triveneto’ (Triveneto wine show) in Camalò, making us proud of this new innovative wine. We like it and so do our winemakers and loyal customers, so we are extremely excited about the next bottlings!

“Na olta no se butaa ia gnente, figurarse se i torcolaa le graspe del Recioto” our grandparents tell us. In other words, in hard times it was a pity to press the pomace that was still steeped in precious Recioto juice, without first using it to enhance lighter wine, giving it the strength and dignity required to be called superior, now rightly known as Ripasso. Indeed, our ancestors also said that: “dopo aver tirà su el vin, tiraene su anca l’acua, tanto da no berla s-ceta!” That is to say that, after pumping over the wine, they also “pumped over” water, so as not to drink it tasteless! In this way, they made a drink called ‘graspìa’ or ‘vin piccolo’, which they drank cool in summer with lemon juice... thus the first cocktails were born in the Valpolicella area!

‘I Camponi’ is one of our most popular and sought-after PGI wines. It gets its name from a historic plot of land that was particularly loved by both our family and the neighbouring inhabitants who came to help with harvesting the fruits of its generous land. The name ‘Camponi’ comes from the combination of ‘campi boni’ (good fields) in the local dialect. In fact, this is the name given to the 3 flat hectares with good sun exposure and water coming from the east and west from two ‘prognette’ (streams). The inhabitants of old Badin used to take their cattle to the streams to graze and drink, and they were used to irrigate the crops on this land. Its reputation was earned and maintained, and is now elevated with this complex, elegant and exclusive wine.

Almost a century of experience in selecting the best grapes for raisining has taught us that one of our plots of land bestows extraordinary characteristics that are different from the other plots owned by the winery: it is Beso. This vineyard gets its name from the surname of the family that owned it before we bought it. However, for us it is now regarded as a “kiss” descending from above, which enhances the grapes that come from it. The soil differs from the calcareous soil of the rest of the estate, it is more loamy and clayey. The vines here are less vigorous, the grape bunches are particularly sparse and are the first to ripen. The outcome is a very interesting dry raisin wine, which we want to enhance by highlighting its most natural characteristics.
